Cricket Tour
28th-31st August

We now have two events booked in on the tour.

On Tuesday 29th July, we will be visiting Chapel Down Winery for a tour and tasting before the Staplehurst game. Chapel Down is an excellent English winery producing good quality wines – they supplied three of the wines served at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton! On the tour, we will be shown around the vineyard and also shown how the wines are made. This will be followed by a tasting of at least six different wines. Finally, there will be the opportunity to buy some wine, hopefully at a slight discount! I have done this trip before and it is well worth the visit.

On Wednesday 30th July, we will be having nine holes of golf at Leeds Castle Golf Course. As we are playing Leeds and Bromfield that day, we will only have a seven iron from the golf course to the cricket ground!

Colts Fun Day
Sunday 22nd June, 2pm start

We've only gone and done it. We beat Marlow CC in the semi-final of the Julian Cup and reached the final for the first time in over 40 years.

Then what happened? Six days later we beat Winchmore Hill and we end up in our second final of the year, this time it's the Chilterns League Cup we have a chance of winning.

Congratulations to Taplow CC for their fine performances which resulted in winning the Maidenhead Indoor Cricket League (Spring 2013).

Taplow cricketer plays Deal or No Deal
Wednesday 14th November 2012

Noel Edmonds rolled up his trousers and tempted our very own Charlie Sheldon with mega-money on Channel 4 this week. Ably assisted by fellow Taplow cricketer Jeff Brown, Charlie instantly impressed Noel with his cheeky grin and cutting edge fashion sense. What did he win? 1p, 250k, a banker spanking? Follow the link to read a blow by blow account of what happened on the show.

Did you know Charlie is a firefighter from Falkirk? No, neither did I.

Taplow cricketer promoted into the Premier League
Wednesday 18th April 2012

Congratulations from us all to Reading FC manager Brian McDermott on his team's promotion into the top tier of English football last night. Perhaps surprisingly considering the talent amongst our ranks, Brian will actually become only the first Taplow (ex-)cricketer to manage a football club in the English Premier League and we wish him well. Nevertheless, it goes to show what a versatile bunch of sportsmen (and Alice!) that us Taplow cricketers really are.

E.G.M.
Wednesday 28th March 2012

Starts 7.30pm.

The Committee is proposing an updated version of the Club Rules - to be known as the Club Constitution and Regulations. The update is to bring the Club Rules into line with the requirements of the English Cricket Board 'Clubmark' standard.

In order to progress the application for 'Clubmark' status Club voting members have to agree (or otherwise) to accept the new Constitution and Regulations.

Thus at the EGM the Committee will propose and second that the updated Club Rules be accepted as the new Constitution and Regulations of Taplow Cricket Club. It is hoped that you will be able to attend this brief meeting to offer support.

Please come and support this fund raising event, the quiz night was very successful and we now need money, as last week a branch fell through the changing room roof!!!!!

Hoping to see you on 24th.

Career Milestone
Saturday 6th August 2011

Congratulations to Chris Paskins on passing the milestone of 10,000 runs for the Club on the way to scoring his 46th fifty for Taplow on 6th Aug 2011. It's only taken 548 innings and 26 years! This would appear to be a testament to cricketing longevity rather than any great innate batting talent but it nevertheless makes him the 10th member of this exclusive 10,000 runs club. Well Done!

Ian Kinrade
Sunday 11th September 2005

It is with great shock and sadness that I must report the sudden death of Ian 'Singing' Kinrade. One of Taplow Cricket Club's most remarkable of players. He collapsed and died perhaps at a time he would have most appreciated - in his whites, waiting to bat having taken another three wickets earlier in the day at Ten Acres.

The Singing Detective loved cricket and why ever not? He was extremely knowledgeable about the game and a tremendously prolific wicket taker. He started playing regularly for Taplow in 1989 and in those days demonstrated control and variety even Shane Warne would have been proud of. I was a teenager in the 1st XI at the time and I still remember, as a fielder, hoping the captain would hurry up and take an opening bowler off so I could start the enjoyable part of the day - watching some very good and utterly bamboozled batsman get stumped by my brother as they tried to work out which way the ball was going to turn! Our fixture list was full of top sides with talented batsman and Singing would delight in working out ways to get them out, something he managed to do with awesome regularity. In 1990 he managed to take 5 wickets in 10 separate matches, an extraordinary achievement by someone who played only once a week.

During much of the nineties he was 1st XI captain on Sundays during which time he was the key part of a strong side. He managed his team extremely effectively as we entered something of a golden age at the Club. He brought together some of the best players seen at Taplow for many years and because of the way he liked to play the game and the great respect he engendered in them he kept them all keen, interested and very happy. Who can forget his end of year Captain's report for 1993, four pages of A4 written entirely in rhyme!

Later on he became captain of the Sunday second XI bringing on many new young players whilst continuing his astonishing rate of wicket taking. At the end of his days he was still getting hatfuls of wickets by taking the pace off the ball and getting the batsman to chip it up in the air. The act of dismissing incompetent batsman is surprisingly difficult, as good bowlers who have played the game will testify; in his final years Singing will probably always be remembered as the greatest bowler against non-batsman ever to have played this great game at Taplow!

'The Great Man' took over 50 wickets in 11 of the 17 seasons he was with us and he was well on course to making this 2005 season his most successful since that remarkable effort in 1990. In all he took 5 wickets on an amazing 51 occasions, he took over 850 wickets - one every four-and-a-half overs! He would come up to nets every Tuesday and bowl on until dark against anyone who was prepared to face him - many will claim that Ian was in fact the world's greatest net bowler. Few will argue. He was a fabulous tourist, a walking anecdote waiting to happen. He loved cricket and we all loved him. To shuffle off to that perfect spinning track in the sky the day before England won back the Ashes seems cruel, I for one will have a drink to his memory whenever we play the Old Enemy in future.

This man who introduced the 'Brockenhurst Ball' to the game which was so devastating the ICC had to introduce a law change to ban it; this man who could explain the art of bowling to a complete non-cricketer by way of wrapping his fingers around a Swan Vesta matchbox and bowling it onto a table; this man who could produce risotto at will in an effort to see just how tight our Aussie overseas player really was when it came to playing 'The Boot'; this man will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts right now are with his family at this saddest of times. We will all miss you, Singing. Non-batsmen throughout the world can now look forward to a distinct improvement in their averages!

John Midlane
Thursday 18th July 2002

It is with the greatest of sadness that I must report the passing away of John Midlane, President of Taplow Cricket Club. He died peacefully in his sleep last night after a short illness.

His links with the Club date back to 1974 and in his playing days at Taplow batted on 500 occasions scoring nearly 7000 runs. He became President in 1988 and remained a vital figure in everything associated with the Club both on and off the field. So many events at the Club and improvements to the facilities would not have been possible in recent times without John and Iris and it is with Iris and the rest of the family that our thoughts are with at this difficult time.

John was a supremely generous man, a superstar. He will always be fondly remembered by the members at Ten Acres and by all those who were fortunate enough to have met him.
