A combination of rain, lack of availability and lack of application made 1974 a season best forgotten. It became painfully obvious as the season progressed that very few members were taking their cricket seriously although one bright aspect was the willingness of the colts to step into first and second elevens when the fixtures were too unattractive for the 'regulars'. I sincerely hope the 1975 captains will bear this in mind when availability is generous at the start of the season.
Individual performances were not really in much evidence although the awards were clearly justified. Clive Kellett emerged as top bowler and this despite playing mainly on wickets not suited to left arm spin.
David Goodrham reaped the benefit of close season coaching and produced some good innings. Apart from these two members together with Gordon Adams and Tim Isaac the rest of us can only improve on performances in 1975.
Thank goodness the colts did so well to brighten the summer and I would like to congratulate them on reaching the county Final and to David Hawes for coaching and organising them ably assisted by Colin Abbott.
Many thanks also to 'Fingers' Ted for standing on Saturdays and of course to the ladies for providing their usual excellent teas.
First, my thanks to all the tea ladies for their efforts of the past year. I think it is safe to say that the teas served at Taplow take some beating. My thanks also to Cliff Kellett for his umpiring, and Martin Kellett for scoring.
It was unfortunately not a very successful season as regards results but it was encouraging to see the steady improvement in the bowling of Clive Kellett and Tim Isaac. Our batting however requires consistency; the early part of the season showed promise but it tended to fade in the latter part. Let us hope the 1975 season is more successful.
I would like to thank all the players who supported me over the past season particularly Gordon Adams, Dave Goodrham, Clive Kellett, Tim Isaac and all those players who "filled in" at short notice to make up the team. My thanks to Andy Huxley for running the Evening League team, who again had a very good season, finishing joint second.
May I wish all members a happy and successful forthcoming season.
