To see the fixture card for the season as full as the rest of the Club shows how the commitment to the third XI has progressed over the past few years.
The season got off to a fine start with two victories which saw the blend of youth and experience as usual working well.
Highlights of the season: Trever Plowman bagging 5 for 21 and 5 for 34, Will (b) Midlane getting (56) and (43) runs in his first two matches, Alastair Ideson 4 for 16 at Ascot II. set 212 by Datchet Glen Plowman (78 no) along with John Ewbank (54 no) winning the match in the rain.
Geoff and Oliver Ideson (62 & 25) sharing a family 50 partnership, on his debut for the Club Richard Thomas (77), Nick Mockett (42) and Chris Davis (47) helped give us a draw with Little Missenden, Alastair Ideson (21) and Roy Prosser (22 no) showed the tail could wag against Widmer End, some fine catches by Mark Green seven in all, also a good 28 runs with Dave Wigmore (34) v Harrowdene, our highest score of the season came against Wheathampstead, with Trevor Plowman (51) and Dave Ewbank (42) putting on 102 runs followed by Richard Thomas (42) and Mike Bradley (66) gave us 243-5 which a confident skipper declared on, only to have the opposition spoil the day by scoring 247-4.
The spirit of the side showed only too well with colts Simon Goodrham stepping in as wicketkeeper one week, opening bat the next and opening the bowling the following week, along with Jonathan Kellett, who played his part in the side very well.
I'm sure all the colts who played will take a more prominent part in the side next year.
In rounding up the season everyone seemed to enjoy their game and I think the blend of the side has worked well with more games won or drawn.
On a sadder note the club has lost the services of one of the third XI's stalwarts in Chris Davis, who has emigrated to New Zealand and on a temporary basis Alastair Ideson is tripping around Australia, so with the two opening bowlers Down Under the side has vacancies!'!
Finally thank you to the people who make the season possible: Dave Wigmore for preparing wickets, Simon Christy for finding us matches, Brian May for scoring, Mandy, Lynn Prosser, Wilma Plowman, Angela Davies and Kathy Ewbank for excellent teas.
