Happy new year everyone. Now the festivities are out of the way for another year it is not long to 27th April, our first game. Before then, however, there is a great deal going on in the build up to the coming season.
Indoor nets start Saturday 2nd February from 2pm to 3pm in Desborough School Sports Hall and continue for 10 weeks. The last session is 6th April. The cost is the same as last year: £3.00 adults, £1.00 colts. Everyone, of any standard, is welcome as the nets will be graded to suit your ability.
A fancy Dress Ball is planned for Friday 15th February in the clubhouse. Although the fancy dress is optional I hope as many as possible will take the opportunity to make themselves look glamorous, outrageous, seductive or just ridiculous. The full details and price have yet to be finalised but it will be an occasion not to be missed. (Editor's note 3-Feb-2002: price will be £5 a head and the Ball is no longer a fancy dress affair). Please confirm your place with the Social Secretary.
Our annual jumble sale is being held on Saturday 13th April in Burnham Park Hall. We shall need volunteers to help set up the stalls as well as run them so please let Iris know if you can help.
Bingo sessions are held fortnightly, starting at 8pm. These are a must for the cognoscente. There is heated debate whether Ross's calling (if allowed) is an attraction or not but they are always very enjoyable. Be rash, be bold, treat yourself to a wild night out! Houses even break the £20.00 barrier sometimes.
Following are a list of the remaining Bingo Nights:
Are you a budding Alan Hansen or Trevor Brooking? We are returning to our habitual haunt, the Forest Park Hotel in Brockenhurst, from Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th June. This year, due to the Queen's Jubilee celebrations Tuesday is a bank holiday. It is also Half Term holiday for schools. After the success last year where Lord's lead Taplow follows and ladies are again very cordially invited to join us. Book early to be sure of your place.
A colt's newsletter will be distributed shortly giving details of nets. If anyone is willing to help out with the very popular Friday evening coaching sessions please contact Dave Thornley (Telephone: 01628 546795).
Subscriptions are now due: £60.00 full members, £20.00 colts and £10.00 social members. This is always a difficult time for the club financially so early payment would be hugely appreciated.
As well as Bingo nights the bar is also open on Tuesday nights from 8pm and Sunday lunchtimes. Why not come out of hibernation early this year? Come along and have a drink, a chat and fill in your entry form for the Great World Cup Draw.
